Estonia 2026: Vanilla Ninja with ‘Too Epic To Be True’

I've fallen way behind on the reviews this year and it's all the way back to Eesti Laul for the next one due with Vanilla Ninja:

Fortunately for catching up purposes, there's not a lot to say here and I don't think many will find me being brief. Vanilla Ninja obviously know what they are doing, give a good live performance, the staging is fine but this entry is really out of date. There's a lot of songs this year where that is somewhat the case, Finland and Italy who chose last night for example and who I'll eventually get to, but they have a charm in their way and can invoke emotion, something this really doesn't to me. This is supposed to be rousing and anthemic but doesn't reach the necessary standard and will have a hard time being remembered.

Estonia are well within their rights to choose their winner for whatever reason, and don't need me to say that, but clearly love for the band and the idea of sending them to Eurovision was a huge component of the victory here, which too was very narrow. This isn't something relevant to the contest as a whole looking at the semi final beyond some points from Germany, where I'm led to believe VN found a lot of their past success. And looking at the semi final is the extent of this I fear.

That second half of semi one where this finds itself is looking rough however and with only 5 missing out Estonia don't look quite as cut a drift as they might have if I'd wrote this on time two weeks back. Still, up against it and there's no real ace in the hole or variable that can shift this with either jurors or the public much.
