Switzerland 2026: Veronica Fusaro with 'Alice'
After waiting months for Switzerland’s entry, it turns out it had been sat around since before Veronica’s announcement.
Hmm. Maybe that jury score last year scared Switzerland quite a bit because this is a country that knows what works and what doesn't at the contest over most of the past decade. This is on the other hand is a classic example of something that isn't really a contest song. Great for a chilled Spotify playlist or a small intimate venue, not so great for a big stage, 15+ song vote for your favourite melee.
I like this, but I suspect it will be lost in the chaos. To me this joins the trinity of Latvia and Luxembourg in that semi final where a low Televote score is likely and a sizeable jury push is needed.
We have seen a couple of entries such as Azerbaijan 2022 and indeed Switzerland the same year qualify on literally and practically jury points alone. Might that be necessary? Might that be possible? My working theory is there's too many moderate jury songs around and instead the Televote will decide things but who knows. Given the draw overall, I'm leaning out on this but if it receives a jury top 5 in the semi by bringing some "real musician" vibes and gets through fairly safely that wont be entirely unexpected.
Switzerland have cracked the jury code in recent years and foremost to doing so again is creating a staging that engages for the three minutes, presents Veronica in that singer-songwriter-autuer vein which is often rewarded and gets the controlling relationship message across better than the music video. For now I just think there are stronger candidates on that side of the vote too.
Personal Rating: 14/20
Televote Potential: 3/20
Jury Potential: 14/20
Staging Potential: 12/20
Track Record: 16/20
Overall Rating: 59/100
Early Prediction Semi Two 10th-13th, 17th-21st if in the Final.
Volatility Factor: 2/5 Televote in both the semi and final likely to be low regardless of live performance. Jury could vary quite a lot and push this but ultimately not likely to achieve more than a top 15 at max.
